**Tissue** — A group of cells with similar structure, working together to carry out one shared function

*Example:* Muscle tissue is made of muscle cells that contract to produce movement

**Worked example:** List the following levels of biological organisation in order of increasing complexity: organ, cell, organ system, organelle, tissue

1. Recall the fixed hierarchy from smallest/least complex to largest/most complex: organelles → cells → tissues → organs → organ systems

2. Confirm it is made of multiple tissues: xylem, phloem, palisade mesophyll tissue, and epidermal tissue, all working together for photosynthesis
3. Final answer: A leaf is an organ, as it is made of multiple different tissues working together to carry out photosynthesis.

## Common pitfalls

- **Wrong:** Reversing the order of levels when asked for increasing complexity, e.g. listing organs before tissues
  - Why it fails: Examiners strictly follow the specification hierarchy, so reversed order loses all marks for that question
