Wrong move:

Confusing Benedict's test for reducing sugars with iodine test for starch

Why:

These are the most frequently mixed up food tests in both multiple choice and theory exam questions

Correct move:

Associate Benedict's test with heating and a brick-red precipitate for reducing sugars, and iodine with a blue-black colour change for starch at room temperature

Wrong move:

Stating that extreme pH or temperature "kills" enzymes

Why:

Enzymes are non-living proteins, so they cannot be killed; extreme conditions alter their 3D active site shape

Correct move:

Refer to permanent loss of enzyme function due to extreme conditions as denaturation, not death

Wrong move:

Assuming all enzymes have an optimum pH of 7

Why:

Enzymes are adapted to their environment, for example stomach pepsin has an optimum pH of 2

Correct move:
