## Common pitfalls

- **Wrong:** Using linear unit conversion factors for area or volume calculations
  - Why it fails: Area conversion factors are squared, and volume factors are cubed, so linear conversion alone produces drastically incorrect values
  - Correct: Square linear conversion factors for area, and cube them for volume (e.g. $1 \text{m}^2 = 10,000 \text{cm}^2$, not $100 \text{cm}^2$)
- **Wrong:** Calculating only arc length when asked for the perimeter of a sector
  - Why it fails: Sector perimeter includes the two straight radii plus the curved arc length, a common exam mark-losing mistake
  - Correct: Add $2r$ to your calculated arc length to get the total perimeter of a sector
- **Wrong:** Mixing up surface area and volume formulas for 3D solids
  - Why it fails: Exam questions explicitly ask for one or the other, and formula confusion leads to full mark loss for the question
  - Correct: Highlight the keyword in the question (surface area = total outer cover, volume = space inside) before selecting your formula
